Max visits town’s small businesses

Parliamentary Candidate for Cheltenham Max Wilkinson has been speaking to dozens of local small businesses – visiting the ever-popular Suffolk Christmas market on Sunday and Cheltenham’s exciting new co-working space Hub8 on Monday.

Max commented, “Cheltenham’s local businesses are amazing. I was delighted to hear at Hub8 how the cyber sector is helping to educate children across the country and the importance of vocational training. And the Market was a great opportunity to see some familiar faces, try some lovely local produce, chat about the issues that are important to them while picking up Christmas gifts at the same time!”

“I hear time and time again from local businesses how they’re excited about the products they make, the services they sell, the technologies they’re building, the customers they serve and what they bring to our town. The enthusiasm is contagious.”

“But I also heard how things are tougher than they should be. Last year, for the first time since 2011, more businesses closed in Cheltenham than started. And whether they’re market stall holders selling Christmas decorations or tech start ups processing big data, many of them rely on our EU membership and have seen their costs going up.”

“A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a brighter future for our town’s businesses.”

“We want to increase national spending on research and development to 3% of GDP to support the kind of innovation Cheltenham specialises in, and a new start-up allowance to help with the costs of living in the first weeks of business. We want to increase investment in zero-carbon priorities which Cheltenham is well placed to take advantage of. We can make a fairer economy, locally as well as across the country.”
